Sports Massage
What It Is
Sports massage is the firmer, more clinical end of the massage spectrum. It draws on deep tissue, trigger point and stretching techniques. Applied with a specific goal in mind, recovery from a hard session, prep for a race, releasing a problem area that's been quietly tightening up for months.
Who It's For
Runners (Bath Half, Bristol 10k, marathon training, parkrun regulars). Cyclists who actually use the hills around Bath. CrossFit, climbing, and Hyrox crews. Anyone who trains hard and wants to keep training without falling apart. Also good for people who don't really play sport but have the same patterns of chronic tension, sciatica pain, locked hips from cycling commutes, calves from long walks.
What Happens
We start with a conversation about what you're training for, what's tight, and what's history versus current. Treatment is firm, focused, and usually concentrated on the areas that take the load, legs, hips, glutes, lower back, shoulders. Pace is slower than Swedish, with stretches and held pressure. You stay in control of the depth throughout sports massage is firm but never bullying.
After-effects
Some immediate relief. Mild next-day soreness in the worked areas is normal, similar to a light training session. Most clients say their next run or session feels noticeably looser.
Pairs Well With
Monthly maintenance via massage membership · Deep tissue for non-sport-specific tension
What our clients say
"I was suffering with sciatica pain. Ally came to my hotel, listened carefully and kindly, and delivered exactly what I needed. My pain went away and I was able to enjoy the rest of my travels. I wish she was in my Seattle WA vicinity, because I would be a frequent customer."

frequently Asked Questions
When should I book around a race or event?
For deep work, 3–5 days before. Closer to the event, keep it lighter a full session. 24–48 hours after a race is ideal for recovery work.
What's the difference between sports massage and deep tissue?
A lot of overlap. Sports massage tends to focus on athletic patterns, running gait, general posture, loaded movement and includes more stretching and active work. Deep tissue is broader and not sport-specific. If you're training, sports. If you're just stiff from life, deep tissue.
Do I need to be a 'proper' athlete to book?
Not at all. We see plenty of weekend runners, occasional cyclists, gym-goers who just want to feel better. If you train, sports massage works for you, the level you train at doesn't matter.
